Balloonacy

By Barry Kornhauser

Spartanburg Youth Theatre ON TOUR's professional company comes to the Chapman Cultural Center for a special daytime performance!

A red balloon drifts through the window of a solitary old man’s home. But then some serious silliness begins - with things fast becoming so magical and so blissfully fun, you barely notice that along the way you’ve learned something about the extraordinarily transformative power of play! Without a single spoken word, this sweet, inventive, and uplifting show - packed with plenty of playful shtick, along with touching reminders of the ups and downs of building a friendship – is a tender and laugh-filled delight for the little ones (and the big ones, too)!

Run Time: The entire experience is 45 minutes, which includes a performance, a Q&A with the actors after the show, and an interactive group theatre workshop (no intermission)

● The Old Man gets frustrated by the first balloon coming through his window.
● The Old Man has a “boxing match” with the balloon, which causes him to fall behind the chair.
● The balloon floats out of a window, leaving the Old Man alone, and the Old Man is sad.
● The balloon returns and helps the Old Man take out the stinky trash.
● The Old Man pushes the balloon repeatedly to get a bite of cupcake.
● The Old Man tosses a flattened cupcake out his window.
● The Old Man angrily kicks the balloon out of his home.
● The Old Man writes the balloon a card to apologize, but the balloon doesn’t accept it and the Old Man cries. That makes the balloon appear again, but it first plays a game of hide and seek with the Old Man.

● The Old Man and the balloon have a boxing match, and the balloon knocks the Old Man over.
