Class Guidelines related to COVID-19:
- You and your child's safety are our first priority this semester. SYT will be implementing heightened measures to ensure the health and safety of all children participating in a class.

At The Spartanburg Youth Theatre, you’ll find:

- A staff comprised of some of the finest theatre artists in the region.

- Classes to inspire and engage every student, from the beginner to the advanced.

- A welcoming environment that encourages each student no matter their skill level.

 

Whether you are an aspiring performer or designer or just want to build confidence and make new friends, the Spartanburg Youth Theatre is the place to be! Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Please remember to register early, as many of our classes fill up quickly.

Tuition:

- Tuition may be paid in full at the time of registration or you may pay half the cost at the time of registration and the remainder no less than 7 days prior to the first day of camp.

Scholarships:

- The scholarship application deadline has passed. Scholarship applications for summer camps will open in the spring.

Early Registration Discount!

- Register before 5pm on Friday, February 5, 2021 and receive $10 off the cost of each class. Early registration discounts do not apply to K4-K5 classes.

- When registering online, the price listed includes the $10 discount.

 
Cancellation:

- If you cancel no later than 7 days before the first day of your camp, tuition less a $30 Class Cancellation Fee will be refunded. If you cancel less than 7 days before the first day of your class, only a refund or credit of 50% of the tuition cost will be issued.

- Once classes have started, no refunds will be given.

2021 Spring Theatre Classes

10-week classes begin the week of Feb 22-26, 2021, and end the week of May 3-7, 2021.

Actor's Studio: Act 2 is a 12-week class with a varying class schedule listed in the description below.

IMAGINATION & PLAY

K4-K5

Our 10-week classes for rising K4-K5 explore creative play, music and art, while learning acting and storytelling techniques.

Pete the Cat *FULL*
Mondays | Grades K4-K5 | 4:00-4:45pm | $90 | 10 weeks

Join Pete the Cat this spring as he comes to life in your classroom! Through fun and creative play, you will learn the basics of teamwork and how to perform confidently in front of others, while exploring the wildly popular Pete the Cat books.

Classes will not meet the week of district 7 spring break, April 5-9, 2021.

 

This class will meet weekly on Mondays for 10 weeks starting Monday, February 22, 2021. The final class will be on Monday, May 3, 2021.

ACTOR-IN-TRAINING
1st-2nd grade

Our 10-week classes for the energetic youngster continue to develop teamwork, self-expression, and imagination, while introducing acting techniques and stage movement skills through a specific fun setting.

Fantasy Lands and Far-off Places *FULL*
Tuesdays | Grades 1st-2nd | 4:00-5:15pm | $125 | 10 weeks

It’s time to visit far-off places where imagination and wonder await you! Become a woodland creature, king or queen of your own kingdom, or even the fire-breathing dragon who guards the castle!

This class will meet weekly on Tuesdays for 10 weeks starting Tuesday, February 23, 2021. The final class will be on Tuesday, May 4, 2021.

 

 

TECHNIQUE CLASSES
3rd-6th
grade

Our 10-week technique classes for rising 3rd-6th graders introduce theatre techniques for those who are curious, and provide intermediate-level performance opportunities for those who are ready for the next step of the theatre process.

Acting Foundations *FULL*
Thursdays | Grades 3rd-6th | 4:00-5:15pm | $125 | 10 weeks

Are you interested in acting but not quite sure where to start? We’ve got you covered! You will leave the class with a strong foundation in stage performance and a newfound sense of self-expression.

Classes will not meet the week of district 7 spring break, April 5-9, 2021.

This class will meet weekly on Thursdays for 10 weeks starting Thursday, February 25, 2021. The final class will be on Thursday, May 6, 2021.

Musical Theatre: Disney on Broadway *FULL*
Wednesdays | Grades 3rd-6th | 4:00-5:15pm | $125 | 10 weeks
Class enrollment: 5 minimum | 10 maximum

Set in the style of a musical revue, students will learn introductory singing and dancing techniques through songs and choreography from the hit Disney Broadway musicals like The Lion King, Aladdin, and Frozen.

Classes will not meet the week of district 7 spring break, April 5-9, 2021.

This class will meet weekly on Wednesdays for 10 weeks starting Wednesday, February 24, 2021. The final class will be on Wednesday, May 5, 2021.

MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDIOS
6th-9th grade

Our 10-week middle school studios for 6th-9th graders provide advanced theatre techniques, and an in-depth look at the theatrical production process.

Actor's Studio: Act 1 *FULL*
Wednesdays | Grades 6th-9th | 4:30-6:00pm | $125 | 10 weeks
Class enrollment: 5 minimum | 8 maximum
Recommended for students with previous experience onstage, this class will dive into advanced theatre techniques and vocabulary. Actors interested must submit an application.
 
Pre-requisite: Relevant acting class/camp at SYT or elsewhere, or previous stage experience; submit an application

Musical Theatre: Broadway Royals
Thursdays | Grades 6th-9th | 4:30-5:45pm | $125 | 10 weeks
Class enrollment: 5 maximum | 10 maximum
King George, Catherine Parr…Lord Farquaad? Broadway’s kings and queens, both real and fictional, are reigning supreme this spring! This class will develop vocal technique, an advanced musical theatre dance vocabulary, stage presence, and collaborative skills through songs from musicals that feature your favorite Broadway royalty like Hamilton, Six and more.

Classes will not meet the week of district 7 spring break, April 5-9, 2021.

This class will meet weekly on Thursdays for 10 weeks starting Thursday, February 25, 2021. The final class will be on Thursday, May 6, 2021.

TEEN ADVANCED STUDIOS
9th-12th grade

Our 12-week teen studios for rising 9th-12th graders provide advanced theatre techniques and training for young actors interested in pursuing a professional theatre career.

Actor's Studio: Act 2
Tuesdays | Grades 9th-12th | 4:30-6:30pm | $185 | 12 weeks
Class enrollment: 5 minimum | 10 maximum
For students who have had previous experience onstage, Actor’s Studio is an advanced course designed for intermediate to advanced actors looking to hone their craft and prepare for the professional world. Students will explore scenes and monologues from contemporary and classical plays and study techniques from different acting masters throughout history. Actors interested must have an intermediate level of theatre concepts and vocabulary, and must submit a pre-screen application.

This class will meet weekly on Tuesdays for 12 weeks starting Tuesday, February 23, 2021.

The class will have a performance on a date TBD the week of May 17-21, 2021. Class will still be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 that week as well.
