Class Guidelines related to COVID-19:
- You and your child's safety are our first priority this semester. SYT will be implementing heightened measures to ensure the health and safety of all children participating in a class.

At The Spartanburg Youth Theatre, you’ll find:

- A staff comprised of some of the finest theatre artists in the region.

- Classes to inspire and engage every student, from the beginner to the advanced.

- A welcoming environment that encourages each student no matter their skill level.

 

Whether you are an aspiring performer or designer or just want to build confidence and make new friends, the Spartanburg Youth Theatre is the place to be! Camps are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Please remember to register early, as many of our classes fill up quickly.

Tuition:

- Tuition may be paid in full at the time of registration or you may pay half the cost at the time of registration and the remainder no less than 7 days prior to the first day of camp.

Scholarships:

- Scholarships are available. CLICK HERE or the button to the right to submit a scholarship application.

- Scholarship applications are due by 5pm on Friday, August 28, 2020. Scholarship applicants will be notified of their scholarships status the week of September 7-11, 2020.

 

Early Registration Discount!

- Register before 5pm on Friday, August 28, 2020 and receive $10 off the cost of each class. Early registration discounts do not apply to K4-K5 classes.

- When registering online, the price listed includes the $10 discount.

 
Cancellation:

- If you cancel no later than 7 days before the first day of your camp, tuition less a $30 Class Cancellation Fee will be refunded. If you cancel less than 7 days before the first day of your class, only a refund or credit of 50% of the tuition cost will be issued.

- Once classes have started, no refunds will be given.

10-week fall classes begin the week of Sept 14-18, and end the week of Nov 16-20, 2020.

Actor's Studio:Act 2 is a 12-week class with a varying class schedule listed in the description below.

 

IMAGINATION & PLAY

K4-K5

Our 10-week classes for rising K4-K5 explore creative play, music and art, while learning acting and storytelling techniques. The semester culminates in a sharing of activities and stories for family and friends.

The K4-K5 offering for the fall has been cancelled due to low enrollment.

ACTOR-IN-TRAINING
1st-2nd grade

 

Our 10-week classes for the energetic youngster continue to develop teamwork, self-expression, and imagination, while introducing acting techniques and stage movement skills through a specific fun setting. The semester culminates in a sharing of activities and stories for family and friends.

Scooby Doo’s Mystery Inc.
Tuesdays | Grades 1st-2nd | 4:00-5:15pm | $125 | 10 weeks
Class enrollment: 5 minimum | 8 maximum
 
Zoinks! Jinkies! Ruh roh raggy! Join Scooby-Doo and the gang in the mystery machine and let’s get to the bottom of this mystery! Are you a part of the gang or are you the monster? Find out in this scoob-ified journey of character development & mystery!
This class will meet weekly on Tuesdays for 10 weeks starting Tuesday, September 15, 2020.
The final class will be on Tuesday, November 17, 2020.

Under the Sea *DAYTIME CLASS*

Dive down to the ocean blue and explore life under the sea with magical mermaids, friendly sharks, and other sea creatures only you can imagine!

TECHNIQUE CLASSES
3rd-6th
grade

Our 10-week technique classes for rising 3rd-6th graders introduce theatre techniques for those who are curious, and provide intermediate-level performance opportunities for those who are ready for the next step of the theatre process. Each class ends with a final performance for family and friends.

Acting Foundations
AFTERNOON: Thursdays | Grades 3rd-6th | 4:00-5:15pm | $125 | 10 weeks *FULL*
DAYTIME: Fridays | Grades 3rd-6th | 1:00-2:15pm | $100 | 8 weeks

Musical Theatre: Trolls World Tour & Shrek *FULL*

There’s a concert in Shrek’s swamp and you’re invited! Set in the style of a musical revue, students will learn introductory singing and dancing techniques through songs and choreography from the hit movie Trolls: World Tour and the Broadway show Shrek the Musical.
This class will meet weekly on Wednesdays for 10 weeks starting Wednesday, September 16, 2020.
The final class will be on Wednesday, November 18, 2020.

Musical Theatre: Disney on Broadway *DAYTIME CLASS*
Fridays | Grades 3rd-6th | 11:00am-12:15pm | $100 | 8 weeks
Class enrollment: 5 minimum | 10 maximum
PLEASE NOTE - This is an 8 week class instead of the normal 10 weeks.
Set in the style of a musical revue, students will learn introductory singing and dancing techniques through songs and choreography from the hit Disney Broadway musicals like The Lion King, Aladdin, and Frozen.
This class will meet weekly on Fridays for 8 weeks starting Friday, October 2, 2020.
The final class will be on Friday, November 20, 2020.

MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDIOS
6th-9th grade

Our 10-week middle school studios for 6th-9th graders provide advanced theatre techniques, and an in-depth look at the theatrical production process. Classes will end with a performance for family and friends.

Actor's Studio: Act 1 *TWO Sessions*
Mondays | Grades 6th-9th | 4:30-6:00pm | $125 | 10 weeks
*Wednesday session is FULL* Wednesdays | Grades 6th-9th | 4:30-6:00pm | $125 | 10 weeks
Class enrollment: 5 minimum | 8 maximum
**The Wednesday session of this class is FULL. A Monday session has been added. All applications submitted fas of August 18 will be considered for the Monday session of this class.**
Recommended for students with previous experience onstage, this class will dive into advanced theatre techniques and vocabulary, culminating in a performance. Actors interested must submit an application.
 
Pre-requisite: Relevant acting class/camp at SYT or elsewhere, or previous stage experience; submit an application
APPLICATION NOTE: Applications submitted on or after August 19 will not receive a response until August 31. Applicants who apply before the early registration deadline (5pm on August 28) will still be eligible for the early registration discount, and will be emailed a discount code with their application approval.

Beetlejuice… Beetlejuice… Regina! This class will develop vocal technique, an advanced musical theatre dance vocabulary, stage presence, and collaborative skills while working toward a final class performance of songs from two of Broadway’s most popular musicals, Beetlejuice and Mean Girls. Don’t forget, on Wednesdays, we wear green.
This class will meet weekly on Thursdays for 10 weeks starting Thursday, September 17, 2020.
The final class will be on Thursday, November 19, 2020.

TEEN STUDIOS
9th-12th grade

 

Our 12-week teen studios for rising 9th-12th graders provide advanced theatre techniques and training for young actors interested in pursuing a professional theatre career. Classes will end with a performance for family and friends.

Actor's Studio: Act 2
Tuesdays | Grades 9th-12th | 4:30-6:30pm | $185 | 12 weeks
Class enrollment: 5 minimum | 10 maximum
For students who have had previous experience onstage, Actor’s Studio is an advanced course designed for intermediate to advanced actors looking to hone their craft and prepare for the professional world. Students will explore scenes and monologues from contemporary and classical plays and study techniques from different acting masters throughout history. Actors interested must have an intermediate level of theatre concepts and vocabulary, and must submit a prescreen application.
Pre-requisite: Intermediate level of theatre concepts and vocabulary; submit a pre-screen application
